Computational Solution for Replacement of Hazardous Organic Solvents via Carbonates
Associated Papers
ABSTRACT: The chemical industry daily consumes vast quantities of organic solvents in various applications. Unfortunately, many of these compounds are known to be toxic and pose environmental risks through accidents or leaks, leading to harm to ecosystems and human health. This project's primary objective was to create a novel model to replace hazardous chemicals with environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and low-toxicity solvents alled alkyl carbonates, such as Dimethyl Carbonate and Diethyl Carbonate, based on quantifiable chemical properties. By measuring absorbance at increasing concentrations and applying linear regression analysis, the project successfully identified safer alternatives. The developed model provides a practical tool for industries, enabling the swift identification of potential replacements for hazardous chemicals, saving time and resources.
